Chef on the Hill with Chef Jan Hendrik
This November, Joburg’s most discerning diners will get a taste of Michelin-star magic when Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff Johannesburg’s executive chef, Dirk Gieselmann, hosts Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen.
The France-based South African chef recently became the first South African to be awarded a coveted Michelin star for his Restaurant JAN in Nice, where he serves modern plates inspired by his South-African heritage and the markets of the South of France.
Jan Hendrik proposes an intimate affair and a South African-inspired menu, matched with South Africa’s Cape Winelands’ finest in the hotel’s exclusive Cellar Door dining venue. Lunch and dinner will be served around a communal table that seats no more than 16 people, with diners able to interact with Jan as the meal is prepared. Van der Westhuizen will present the meal himself.
The pop-ups form part of Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff’s innovative festive season calendar, celebrating the very best of France and South Africa.
“I’m delighted that Jan is joining us for what will undoubtedly be an incredible special month in Joburg” Gieselmann says. “Although each of us have our own signature style, we share a passion for French cuisine, for the South France, and equal respect for South Africa’s best food produce and wine. Working together with the very best locally sourced ingredients we aim to create two very different and exciting culinary journeys before the year- end holidays.”
