David Krut has been actively engaged in visual arts and arts publishing collaborations since 1981. Commencing with his collaboration with William Kentridge in 1992, he offered collaborative facilities leading in 2002 to the establishment of the first experimental arts workshop in Johannesburg in what is now known as the Parkwood/Rosebank Art Strip. More than a hundred artists have created art works in collaboration with Krut and his team, and led to an expansion of facilities to the pioneering arts workshop at Arts on Main in the inner city in 2010.
Krut’s publication of the TAXI ART BOOKS started in 1999, contributed greatly to a local and international awareness of SA contemporary artists. They are a respected starting point in arts education and writings on SA art.
Krut’s Arts Resource and Projects facilities represent a combination of artists workshop, art galleries, bookstores and arts educational facilities at two Johannesburg locations – 151 Jan Smuts Avenue in Parkwood, and Arts on Main in Maboneng. An art gallery and bookstore is also located at Montebello Design Centre in Newlands, Cape Town.
